We will be starting a science unit on habitats: forest, ocean, desert, arctic, and prairie. We will be building habitats in our classroom to see the differences in the landscapes.

Third Grade EL students are practicing writing skills. We have been using drawings to support paragraph writing. In addition to writing good paragraphs, these students have been exploring new vocabulary by finding new words in the thesaurus. Ask them why we no longer have FUN in the EL classroom. You will be delighted to find what wonderful, playful, and exciting words the students can come up with.

Fourth Grade EL students have been practicing organizing paragraphs. They will need this skill when they go to Middle School. We use the stop light to help us remember what to include in our writing. We start with a big idea sentence. We describe with detail sentences. We add examples and transition words to enhance our writing. The end sentence repeats the big idea, but with different words. We have been practicing revising and editing to make sure our writing includes academic words and sounds sophisticated.
